about this blog:
This blog is dedicated to the memories of my grandmothers, who I think would like what their grand-daughter is brewing in and out of the kitchen. It is also dedicated to all of the people who, voluntarily or otherwise, have decided to cut some foods out of their diet. It's a challenge, so we should share recipes and experiences to make the challenge feel like an opportunity rather than a burden.
about me:
I'm a thirty-something Wisconsin girl who, like so many of us, thrives on friendships, adventure, shared experiences, and attempting to make the world a better place. I love to travel and to be where (my definition of) the action is. I'm at my best and happiest when I'm surrounded and inspired by the people and events around me. At present, I'm living my (current) dream in Washington D.C. while staying connected to friends and family in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and other corners of the world.
I've loved to be in the kitchen since I was a little kid. My hometown friends Rachel and Christine can affirm that the kitchen was like a magnet to me. We baked a LOT of boxed brownies back then. My parents have a great story about 5-year-old me "baking" in my Fisher Price kitchen. My grandma came over to check out my creations and I told her to "get out of my kitchen!" I have since improved my manners and that wonderful skill of sharing. :) I have lots of kitchen memories with my other grandma, too. Visits to her Florida home were filled with chats in the kitchen while cooking, baking, and eating her famous granola. I wish my grandmas could cook with me in my kitchen now. But they're undoubtedly smiling down on me and appreciating my (sometimes failed, sometimes successful) experiments.
When I moved back to Wisconsin from DC in my late twenties, I discovered I had developed sensitivities to several food groups, including dairy and gluten. Almost over night, I had to get serious about cooking. Now, a couple years later, after lots of conversations and reading books and blogs, I started my own blog as a way to keep track of what I'm cooking. Some of my friends and friends of friends discovered or adopted their own dietary limitations, so this blog has also become a way to share my limited but growing experience with going gluten and dairy-free.
Oh, and Pinzie is a nickname from when I was younger. Just a way to add a little color to this blog.
